2007 vs 2011 Tiger 1050 Shock Damping Comparison
Well since I have had the pleasure of working on a 2007 & 2011 Tiger 1050 shock I thought I would share some damping curve info between the two.
Also the Stock spring on the 07 Tiger 1050 I got was a 11.1 kg/mm and the 2011 measured out at 13.9 kg/mm. These were both measured by me on the same tester.
In the image below you will see the rebound comparison of the 07 vs 11 Tiger 1050, With the spring on the 2011 substantially stiffer than the 07 I was hoping for a bit stiffer rebound damping but as usual with Triumph I see that did not happen. The lo speed rebound damping is stiffer but that is mainly due to the 07 having a bleed on the valve and the 2011 does not.
Now here is the compression comparison and as you can see the compression damping on the 2011 is substantially stiffer than the 07. The 07 has the bleed and also has a lo speed stack and a high speed stack with a crossover shim in between the two. Where the 2011 has just a hi speed stack with no crossover.
Ok since I rated the springs I figured why not throw a data graph up from that as well. For anyone wanting to know the difference in the spring between the 07-10 and the 2011 and newer here it is. I am posting both the kg/mm and the spring force in kg so you will have some reference.
And spring force here.
Keep in mind that I have not had the bikes in front of me so I am not sure if the leverage ratio is the same or different.
Thanks to dtrides and Buzz for sending me the shocks to tear apart and take a look at what is going on inside. DT the lack of damping on the 2011 rebound can now be seen and would explain the issues you were having.
